Incidence of Autism/ASD

Across the spectrum, autism is estimated to occur in 1 in 88 individuals, (national average - Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 2012).  On this basis there would be approximately 144,345 people in Pennsylvania, including both children and adults, who have autism. Autism is more common in males than females and knows no racial, ethnic, or social boundaries. The individual support needs of adults with autism range from a few hours per week to full time assistance.

Adults with autism often require lifelong community services, individualized accommodations and other forms of assistance.
